Off of Route 177 in Westport sits a quiet development called Longview Estates.

Here, the lots are large and pleasantly landscaped. The street, Lighthouse Lane, ends in a cul-de-sac and is lined with sidewalks. It feels like a neighborhood, not a development.

Also here is our Home of the Week, a move-in ready, Colonial-style home with some flair.

There is a long driveway with ample parking space leading up to the home.

Though Colonial style homes tend to have similar appearances, listing agent Rose Twomey of Jack Conway Real Estate Dartmouth at Padanaram Village sayd that this one has character.

“It’s a stately home and has great curb appeal,” said Twomey.

The large front yard is well kept. The new owners will be able to continue its maintenance, as the lawn is equipped with an irrigation system. Professional landscapes lines the home’s white vinyl exterior. The contrasting black shutters give it a sophisticated look.

A walkway from the large driveway provides leads to the front door. Walking in, the two-story open entry provides plenty of natural light. Hardwood floors extend from the entry into the formal dining room to the right, which has chair rail and crown moldings, enhancing the traditional feel of the room.

To the left is the formal living room. This formal set-up is usual — however, this particular home has a unique spin. Dating back to the 18th century, the colonial home style is part of the heritage that we will celebrate on the Fourth of July. This house follows that enduring fashion with symmetrical, multipaned, shuttered front windows framing the entrance portico.

Built 11 years ago, the custom home features dark grout, stained shutters and red brick on all four sides to recreate an authentic historical dwelling.

The colonial exterior combines with a more recent, contemporary interior floor plan. Expansive picture windows were designed to take full advantage of the landscaped 8.60-acre fenced lot, which includes magnolias, crepe myrtle and Japanese maple, plus a creek and a pond.

Towering trees frame the road to the house and surround the dwelling. Beyond the wrought-iron gate, a landscaped stone patio displays a sundial that conveys in front of the entrance door. The front hall features hardwood floors and pillars that frame the living room with multipaned windows.

The foyer also faces the great room, which includes a fireplace with a dentil carved mantel and brick surround, echoing the colonial style. A wall of expansive 10-foot picture windows provides a memorable wooded view. Most of the rooms overlook the lavish scenery through Andersen double-paned windows for efficient insulation. Both the walls and windows help keep the temperature at a comfortable level throughout the year to save on energy.

Another expansive bay window appears in the breakfast nook, overlooking the hot tub, which conveys. A granite counter divides the nook from the great room. A multipaned glass door leads from the breakfast area to the wooden deck, where steps lead down to the hot tub and the landscaped lot beyond.

The glass-enclosed shower stands beside the oversized, corner jetted tub.

Across the landing, another bedroom also provides a private bath. Two additional bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bath.

The unfinished lower level includes a wall lined with windows, including a bay, and an exit to the deck’s lower level.

The historical spirit will be alive at Fourth of July celebrations at both Mount Vernon and Monticello. These fine examples of the Southern Colonial style have inspired many Northern Virginia houses.

Following this Southern Colonial style, the brick structure of this home displays white columns rising two stories beneath the central gable and the blue shake-shingle roof. The pillars frame the front door and the multipaned, arched Palladian window above. The windows are symmetrically arranged on either side of the entrance.

Beyond the front door with its decorative glass insets, the two-story entrance hall features an elaborate chandelier that conveys, above wainscoted walls. It is open to the living and dining rooms on either side, in the true colonial tradition. Both rooms include Brazilian hardwood floors beneath crown molding, while the dining room also features wainscoting and another chandelier that conveys.

A multipaned glass door connects the living room with the office or home library. Beneath a beamed ceiling, this room provides two walls of built-in hardwood bookshelves, plus hardwood floors and a hardwood mantel. Hardwood frames surround the windows and the multipaned doors that lead to the rear sunroom.

Sliding glass doors connect the sunroom with the wooden deck. The sunroom features a full-length brick mantel, part of a two-sided brick fireplace. The opposite side appears in the family room, which is also open to the front parlor. The modern trend of blending a formal Colonial front area with an open, flowing floor plan is evidenced in this home.

Brazilian hardwood floors and crown molding continue from the living room into the family room. Beneath its slanted skylit ceiling, this space boasts a wall of windows and sliding glass doors opening onto the deck. Three steps lead from the deck to the stone patio, and both areas overlook the wooded, fenced rear lot.

The family room is also open to the breakfast area, which features a contemporary chandelier that conveys and an expansive view of the deck. The renovated kitchen features upscale stainless-steel appliances and granite counters, including a cooking bar. The rear kitchen adjoins the front dining room, which leads to the entrance hall, completing the flowing floor plan. Also in the entrance hall, the winding wooden stairway faces the powder room.

From the second-story landing, the entrance hall provides another impressive view. The landing leads to the master suite, with an office or sitting area to its side. Adjoining the front bedroom, the rear bath provides a jetted tub with a tile surround, a separate shower with a floor-to-ceiling tile backsplash and two separate vanity counters.

Three other bedrooms share a hallway bath, while the fifth bedroom features built-in bookshelves and an adjoining private bath. New carpeting appears throughout this level.

A full bath with a glass-enclosed shower is in the recently carpeted, lower-level recreation room, which has a full-length brick fireplace.
